Mission Viejo Diablo football has a long tradition of success on the field and in the classroom. The first Diablo football game pitted the Mission Viejo High School Diablos against the El Modena Vanguards in 1966. With frequent CIF playoff appearances starting in 1975, League Championships starting in 1977 and 5 CIF Championships, a standard of excellence is the Diablo standard of performance.

The 2009 season continued the program's success with a return to the South Coast League Champions going 5-0 in one of the toughest leagues in the CIF Southern Section. 2009 had another strong CIF apperance for this storied program with a final record of 13-1 with the team's only defeat at the hands of the State Champions.

The upcoming 2010 season will be a continuation of that time honored tradition with the infusion of the undefeated and South Coast League Champion Sophomore team combined with the depth of the returning seniors. The 2010 preseason will be one of the strongest in recent years.

The school has fielded one of the best football records in the country over the past three decades and the Diablos have been nationally ranked by USA Today on numerous occasions.

Mark Sanchez (USC), Nick Reed (Oregon), Gregg Peat (Oregon State), Chase Moline (UCLA) and Chane Moline (UCLA), Konrad Reuland (Notre Dame/Stanford), and Kevin Bemoll (Cal) were the key ingredients to one of the best high school football teams ever to come from the State of California in 2005. The school finished the 2004 season ranked third in the nation by USA Today, and was one of only ten schools that appeared in the paper's Top 25 during every week of the season. In the fall of 2005 they finished with a 12-1 record and were ranked 20th in the country by USA Today.

The Varsity Diablos will continue their rightful position as South Coast League Champions in 2010. Freshman and Sophomore teams continue to be consistent powerhouses in their respective levels with a long history of South Coast League Championships and numerous undefeated seasons. The sustained success at these levels provides the base that our Varsity Diablos builds from...................TRADITION NEVER GRADUATES!!
